Program
To

|
| The
medieval ensemble Cançonièr has been performing this program to
capacity audiences, as well as releasing it as their second CD. Centered
on the infamous rule of Vlad the Impaler in what is now Southern Romania,
it brings in Balkan folk-songs, Turkish music, music of the Byzantine
court and church, Italian and French dances, German songs, and the Lamentation
for the Fall of Constantinople by Guillaume Du Fay. Cançonièr's
earlier CD was a fresh but historically informed look at Western European
medieval music, and its members are also well regarded in World Music
circles.

|
"The central block of Hungarian/Transylvanian/Moldavian/Bulgarian music is
absolutely gorgeous...
as a speculation on the possible sound world of someone in Vlad's time, it's a
delight."
